Maths
In Maths we aim to enable all children to learn, and develop their skills, to the best of their ability. We promote a positive attitude towards learning, so that children enjoy coming to school, and acquire a solid basis for lifelong learning. Pupils are motivated by teaching that aims to create a sense of curiosity and wonder. We teach children the basic skills of number and we aim to enable children to be creative and to develop independent thinking. The teaching of mathematics at Baines, strives to retain and develop children’s natural sense of curiosity about the world around them.
Through the teaching of mathematics we work to develop a set of attitudes which will promote mathematical ways of thinking, including open ended, perseverance, objectivity and a recognition of the importance of teamwork. Children at Baines are taught to become effective communicators of mathematical ideas, facts and data. Teaching aims to begin to build up a body of mathematical knowledge and understanding that will serve as a foundation for future enquiry.
Maths
