Computing
Computing is discretely taught weekly, every alternate half term. The curriculum is broken into three main strands; Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Digital Skills. Whilst these are taught independently, they are applied in other curriculum areas using a variety of hardware and software. Pupils have access to learning tools such as iPads, laptops, chromebooks, digital cameras and bee bots – learning how, when and why each could be used. As pupil’s journey through school, their knowledge of these tools will be expanded before they are given more control of their own choices of hardware and software in upper Key Stage 2. In every year group, children are taught how to use technology safely and responsibly in order to ensure they are committed to becoming mature and confident in their approach to the online community. The school follows the National Curriculum Programme of Study whilst using the Purple Mash scheme of work to help teachers plan exciting and relevant lessons, ensuring full curriculum coverage. In EYFS settings, pupils are taught basic Computing skills as part of the Knowledge and Understanding of the World strand.
