Art and Design

Art has a very important place within our curriculum and provides our children with a wide range of creative and artistic experiences throughout the school year. We see art as a vehicle for creativity and individual expression providing opportunities to promote imagination, creativity, confidence, self-esteem and personal fulfilment. It is an important part of cultural expression and therefore has significance and meaning for all our children. Our teaching provides an understanding of all the diverse art forms enabling our children to experience drawing, painting, collage, textiles, 3D design, modelling, printmaking and digital media. Our children are introduced to the Great Masters and a wide variety of other artists and their creative styles. We have ‘Art Days’ with a whole school focus on a specific artist or painting and we include art within our themed weeks. Children’s art is displayed throughout school within classrooms and as part of the corridor displays as well as within staff areas demonstrating the pride we have for our children’s talent. We participate in local art competitions and children visit art galleries to view their own and others work.
